ONE campaign

So radio stations has recently been buzzing with the song “cocoa na chocolate” and the internet been all about the ONE campaign, so I decided to let you in about what the ONE campaign is.
The campaign is all about getting all African governments to look better into the agriculture sector, the campaign is also set to change the image of agriculture making it more pleasant to the Youths. Africa has the largest land area that can the cultivated, and the ONE campaign is all about getting more people into farming.
The “cocoa na chocolate” song is the campaign’s official soundtrack, having more than 15 artists and all the artists are from 11 different countries and speak 10 different languages but this musicians has one thing in common “the aim to alleviate poverty in africa through agriculture”. The song dropped today and premiered on the MorningRush show of the Beat FM around 9am, and since then it has been on replay on different radio stations.
ONE on the other hand is a campaigning and advocacy organization of more than 3.5 million people taking action to end extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa… because the facts show extreme poverty has already been cut in half and can be virtually eliminated by 2030, but only if we act with urgency now.
Cofounded by Bono and strictly nonpartisan, we raise public awareness and work with political leaders to combat AIDS and preventable diseases, increase investments in agriculture and nutrition, and demand greater transparency in poverty-fighting programs. ONE also works closely with African activists and policymakers as they fight corruption, promote poverty-fighting priorities, monitor the use of aid, and help build civil society and free enterprise.
ONE is not a grant-making organization and does not solicit funding from the public or receive government funding. ONE is funded almost entirely by a handful of philanthropists and foundations. ONE achieves change through advocacy — ONE’s teams in Washington, D.C., London, Johannesburg, Brussels, Berlin, and Paris educate and lobby governments to shape policy solutions that save and improve millions of lives.
In recent years, ONE’s members, together with other non-profit partners, have played an important role in persuading governments to support effective programs and policies that are making a measurable difference in fighting extreme poverty and disease. As a result of these advocacy efforts, more than 7.5 million people living in Africa today have access to lifesaving AIDS medication, up from only 50,000 in 2002. Malaria has been cut by 75% in eight African countries since 2000, and 54 million more children across sub-Saharan Africa are now going to primary school, compared to 1999.
Should african leaders focus more on agriculture? Is agriculture the way forward for the african continent? Can poverty be reduced drastically through agriculture? Your thoughts pls…..

BBC tags wizkid “Nigeria’s Justin Beiber”

Really? Nigeria’s Justin Beiber? Well here’s an extract from BBC’s site about wizkid;
“Wizkid – Nigeria’s ‘Justin Bieber’

African music market has attracted prominent artists heading to Africa to find success. Fuse ODG and DizZY are just some of the UK artists of African heritage heading back to the continent to make their mark.
Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Edu has been out to Lagos to meet the hottest artistes and the coolest sounds from Nigeria.
Multi award-winning Wizkid is such a huge star that he has been called “Nigeria’s Justin Bieber”, although he would prefer to be compared to Usher.
BBC Africa’s Peter Okwoche reports.

Canada’s JUNO awards all this gist! Bieber got booed in his home country

Pop singer Justin Bieber received a chorus of boos as he won the fans’ choice prize at Canada’s Juno Awards.
The 20-year-old was not present to collect his award – or hear the reaction – after beating the likes of Celine Dion, Drake and Michael Buble.
The crowd were later scolded by Serena Ryder, who won songwriter of the year.
“Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and he deserved every bit of that award because he’s been working his ass off his entire life,” she said.
Canada’s Olympic women’s curling team accepted Bieber’s award
“We need to support how awesome he is. He’s great. He’s amazing.”
Bieber’s award was collected on his behalf by members of Canada’s Olympic women’s curling team.
The pop star has had a troubled start to 2014, after being arrested for driving under the influence in Miami.
Police in California also searched his home after he allegedly threw eggs at a neighbour’s house.
The Juno Awards are Canada’s equivalent of the Brits and the main winners on Sunday were pop duo Tegan and Sara.
Serena Ryder won songwriter of the year
The identical twin sisters won group of the year and best single, for the celebratory love song Closer.
Although the song failed to chart in the UK, its parent album, Heartthrob, was the band’s first to trouble the top 40, reaching number 38 in February last year.
Their seventh release, it was named best pop album at the Junos.
“I don’t think very many people, and especially not us, thought two queer kids from northeast Calgary would get to here,” said Tegan, “but here we are.”
Rock outfit Arcade Fire won the overall album of the year prize, accepting their award via video from their tour in South America. They also won for alternative album of the year.
Canada’s national public broadcaster CBC reportedthat former astronaut and commander of the International Space Station, Chris Hadfield, introduced Bachman-Turner Overdrive.
Tegan and Sara were the main winners of the night
The band were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and CBC said he “managed to croon some of BTO’s lines himself before Randy Bachman, Fred Turner, Blair Thornton and Robin Bachman took to the stage”.
“Good music is an international language, even in space,” he said.
Blurred Lines singer Robin Thicke, who was up for three awards, also failed to show up, having cancelled his performance at the awards to rest his voice.
Awards organiser the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, said on Sunday morning that Thicke had been placed on “mandatory vocal rest,” The Hollywood Reporter said.
His absence coincided with an online petition calling for his removal from the show for “blatant sexism.”
A Tribe Called Red, a band that combines electronic and First Nations music, took the prize for breakthrough group of the year while breakthrough artist of the year went to Brett Kissel.
Bruno Mars won the international album of the year for Unorthodox Jukebox.
I think Beiber doesn’t deserve the boos! Your thoughts pls, anyway his award was placed on a chair cause he wasn’t at the event to receive the award.
